Deputy Prime Minister called for "a coalition of people prepared to roll up their sleeves and get the nation back on its feet".
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has pledged to stand up for the millions of people who form the backbone of the country who don’t rely on state handouts and opt to rise early for work “rain, wind or shine”.
Mr Clegg said these people would pull the country out of the recession and called for “a coalition of people prepared to roll up their sleeves and get the nation back on its feet”.
He promised the Government would help those in employment by lowering income tax for basic rate taxpayers, protecting jobs by cutting employer red tape, increasing childcare for working families and protecting pensions.
Speaking in The Sun, Mr Clegg said:
We are protecting jobs by cutting red tape for employers and stopping Labour’s tax on jobs. We are putting more money into our schools. We are increasing childcare for kids under five to help the mums and dads who get up every morning and juggle work with raising their families.
And we’re helping the grandparents too by protecting pensions and putting billions into social care.
Earlier today, the Deputy PM met factory workers in Cricklewood, north London at 6.30am as part of the Alarm Clock Britain campaign.
