Deputy PM meets Prime Minister Fillon of France

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has met the French Prime Minister François Fillon at 10 Downing Street.

Discussions were wide-ranging and covered issues including UK-French trade and building on the success of the UK-French Summit last year.

Following the meeting, Mr Clegg said:

I am pleased to join the Prime Minister in welcoming M Fillon to London.  We discussed a range of bilateral issues including deepening UK-French trade, science, energy and education links, building on the successful UK-France Summit. We also had productive talks on the European economy and how to generate stronger European growth as well as a number of foreign policy priorities. 

"Relations between the UK and France have an enormously significant and colourful history, and I look forward to ever-closer co-operation in the future."
