Business Compact

The Business Compact asks businesses and other organisations to open their doors to people from all walks of life, regardless of their background. It was announced last April as part of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Social Mobility Strategy to make society fair and ensure everyone has equal opportunities.

The aim of the Compact is to encourage behavioural change in business, so opportunities are open to everyone. The Government believes no one should be prevented from fulfilling their potential because of where they’re born, the school they go to, or the jobs their parents do – skills and talents shouldn’t be wasted just because someone’s personal circumstances mean they can’t get a foot on the ladder.

Are you an employer?

More than 100 businesses have already signed up to the Business Compact, from a wide range of sectors including legal, retail, finance and energy. Read case studies from our signatories here.

The full list of signatories as of 30 April 2012 can be found here.

Find out what signing up entails by reading the Business Compact factsheet and see examples of the innovative ways businesses are opening up their recruitment and community engagement practices here.
